Nathan Jung - About/Resume

About Me

Hi, I'm Nathan. I'm studying mechanical engineering at NYU Tandon, and honestly, I like making stuff; it doesn't matter if that's in CAD or with a welder in my hand.

Most of my internships have been about closing the gap between a drawing and something that actually works on the shop floor. At Magellan Aerospace, I built a jig to seal landing gear parts, reducing cycle time by almost half. In Copenhagen, I helped build a concrete 3D printer by cutting sheet metal, welding, and figuring out why the hopper kept jamming. I've run a 3D printing farm, taught people how to use a CNC mill without hurting themselves, and once spent a summer teaching a robotic hand to copy my hand gestures using OpenCV.

These days, I'm building a sensor-loaded handle for a smart cane at NYU's research lab, and I lead payload engineering for our rocketry team, Rogue Aerospace. We've won a couple of awards, which mostly just means our electronics survived being launched, which is harder than it sounds.

I like simple solutions to complicated problems. Fewer parts, cleaner assemblies, less stuff that can break. If there's a torque wrench or a CAD file involved, I'm probably having a good time.

I'm originally from Toronto, Canada. Whenever I'm not studying or working, I love to do photography and origami. I can also play the guitar and play tennis! You can check out my photography and origami portfolio at nathanjung.ca.
